Kickstarting my Distributor Journey
This is my first blog. Just a few seasons ago I was an investor into Mutual Funds (MFs) investing through institutional distributors. I had been investing seriously only since 2016, before that I did not have access to funds which deserved a serious look. By 2024, I had money and I also the time to indulge into MF distribution and thus took the AMFI (Association of MF of India) examination. I did serious preparation over 3 days, 1 day each for two chapters of the curriculum book and cleared the exam. Thereafter I found myself engaging with a MF company named NJ Wealth with whom I became a Distributor partner. I was put through basic and advance training, made to attend lectures by MF companies which were launching NFOs and was also coached on client acquisition. I was inspired by my newly acquired skills. I first approached a group of young adults with full confidence and managed to engage three clients. I was on seventh heaven. Within the next three months I delivered two lectures to potential investors, aided by domain experts. First was to a community of elders deep into their retirements so as to convince them to shift a part of their investments from FDs to MFs. The second was to teachers of Khaitan School at Noida. So in my first three months I had connected with more than 100 prospective clients. The objective of these interactions was to promote MFs as an ideal platform for medium/long term investments and of course, promote myself as the intermediary for any individual's investment journey. And then I waited patiently for people to reach out. This was the most challenging and interesting part of my start. I soon learnt that everyone shows keen interest but when it comes to taking the plunge, it is different story.
